Introduction
Indonesian Seafarers Welfare Committee (ISWC), is an independent self-governing non-governmental & non-profit organization concerned with promoting the social welfare of Indonesian seafarers and their family members. This is in line with the Indonesian government’ national development program to promote the well being of all Indonesians.
The Indonesian Seafarers Welfare Committee (ISWC) was initially founded by three Indonesian professionals who have great concern toward promoting the social welfare of Indonesian seafarers and their family members.

The legal form of ISWC is a Foundation with non-profit status and established on 22nd October 1999 with Notarial Deed No. 70 by Notary Public Agus Madjid SH and officially registered at the East of Jakarta District Court with registration No. 51/Leg/2000 on 7th February 2000.
With the change of Indonesian law on Foundation entity, a revision Notarial Deed for ISWC was made in 2011by Notary Public H. Feby Rubein Hidayat SH.
ISWC' current programs is the provision of life and health insurance for seafarers and its family member, retirement fund for seafarers and the provision value-added training programs for Indonesian seafarers while onshore and last but not least importance is the provision of legal-aid assistance.
Future programs to include offshore distance learning over the Internet (while employment at sea), provision of children education scholarships, seminars promoting Indonesian seafarers' social welfare and publish materials both printing and electronically and to establish and run study/ research groups in Indonesia' maritime and seafaring sciences.
To support its non-profit actvities, ISWC is financially supported from its membership fees.
